GiZ – Global Project Culture and Creative Industries

Task

Our commissioned research, conducted in late 2019, delved into Kenya’s festival ecosystem to enhance internal processes and drive sustainable development within the culture and creative industries.

Methodology

Leveraging design research, our study included desk research, interviews with 12 organizers, a survey involving 107 attendees, and focus group discussions to distill actionable insights.

Findings

Our non-scientific yet comprehensive research identified major festival categories, attendee demographics, registration formats, revenue strategies, staffing insights, policy landscapes, and immediate sectoral needs.

Opportunities

This research presents valuable insights for clients exploring the festival landscape, revealing untapped financing strategies, demographic preferences, and immediate sectoral needs. It offers a strategic approach for clients engaging in festival-related ventures.

Next Steps

We recommend future applied research to influence policy reforms, industry skill development, and foster a centralized knowledge hub for continual industry enhancement.
